Express delivery

The extension of the Waikato Expressway from Cambridge to Piarere will mean safer travel for people, and create opportunities for Waipā businesses.

The Environmental Protection Authority has approved the Cambridge to Piarere extension of the Waikato Expressway and work will start late next year. The expressway will track north of the existing State Highway One from Cambridge and join up with the just-completed Piarere roundabout which links highways 1 and 29. The four-lane project is expected to be completed by 2033.

Clocks forward

Daylight Saving commences on Sunday – when our clocks go forward 60 minutes. Daylight saving starts each year at 2am on the last Sunday in September and ends at 3am on the first Sunday in April.

Pro bono work

Clive Henry

Legal firm Harkness Henry has celebrated 150 years of legal service with 150 hours of community volunteering over the spring months, supporting Kids in Need Cambridge, Goldfields School Paeroa, and Sanctuary Mountain Maungatautari.

Harkness Henry operates from four offices across the region in Hamilton, Cambridge, Paeroa and Matamata.

Clive Henry – who grew up in the King Country and is remembered fondly as “Father Clive” – co-founded the firm in 1945. He died aged 98 in 2001 having been prominent in Hamilton legal circles for six decades.

New director

Waipā Networks has added Alex Ball to its board of directors. Ball has more than over 30 years of commercial leadership experience in infrastructure, technology, telecommunications, and financial services, including senior executive roles at Vector, Transpower and TelstraClear. Jen Crawford also joined the board this month.

Waipā teenager Lily Greenough completed an outstanding debut season in under-23 UCI BMX Racing with a podium finish for the season-long championship finalised in Argentina on Monday. The Cambridge rider won the under-23 women’s world title in Denmark last month.

Limit supported

A proposal by New Zealand Transport Agency to reduce the speed limit on the busy Raynes Road and SH21 Airport Road intersection to improve road safety has been supported by Waipā District Council. The proposal is to install an ‘Intersection Speed Zone’ (electronic sign) which will reduce the speed limit on SH21 Airport Road from 100km/h to an enforceable 60km/h when vehicles approach from Raynes Rd.
