MP ties knot in the house

Louise Upston and Hamish Craig

Local Taupō MP Louise Upston married partner Hamish Craig on Saturday –  at their Karāpiro home.

A Facebook photo of the newlyweds Louise Upston and Hamish Craig received more than 1700 likes in 24 hours.

The couple, who have been together for a decade, surprised friends who came to their house at 6pm by telling them they had married earlier in the afternoon with only extended family present.

“It was a very relaxing day with friends and family. We could not have asked for a better Cambridge day,” Upston told The News.

Among those to comment on the announcement on social media were Prime Minister Christopher Luxon who said “Wooohoooo!”, fellow MPs, local politicians and party stalwarts.

Upston’s dress was from Knuefferman in Auckland but the rest of the day belonged to local suppliers. The cake was from Layers by Ella Kitchen, hair by Ross & Co, nails by Royal Nail, flowers by Ivy Florist and catering by Gourmet Delicious.

The celebrants were family friends Hamilton mayor Tim Macindoe and Lisa Mitchell.

Upston – maiden name McGill – is the youngest of four children and has three children herself, Hamish, Mac and Jessica. The marriage is her second.
