Cambridge aces it

Cambridge Racquets Club was named Waikato Tennis Trust’s club of the year last week.

And club members were also named volunteer of the year, female player of the year and administrator of the year for the Waikato Thames Valley region.

The major club award recognised the club’s atmosphere and culture. Cambridge has activities organised every day of the week ranging from Sunday afternoon social sessions to the men’s premiership senior interclub league.

Annabel Chapman

Annabel Chapman, a rising star in New Zealand tennis, was named female player of the year having reached a national number four ranking in the 16-and-under category.

This year she has showcased her talents in Ireland, Malaysia, Fiji and New Caledonia.

Volunteer of the year Mike Causer contributes to organising regional junior fixtures and regional events and administrator of the year Suzie Halliday is credited with an invaluable contribution ranging from organising tournaments to grant applications.

Female Player of the Year – Annabel Chapman

  • #4 in New Zealand in 16&U age group, Part of the Junior Billie Jean Cup training team and just missed out on selection.
  • Currently ranked #2233 in the world for 18&U and has competed in events in Ireland, Malaysia, Fiji and New Caledonia over the past 12 months.
  • Played #1 for Waikato-Bays in the 17&U National Teams Events. Played #1 for Waikato in the 18&U Intra Regional team and went undefeated helping the team to win the overall competition

Administrator of the Year – Suzie Halliday

  • Your positive and friendly approach makes everyone feel welcome, always greeting everyone with a smile. You have strengthened the relationship with tennis and squash within CRC, which has strengthened the club as a whole. The club has huge support from volunteers and your ability to engage well with everyone encourages this continued support. Club Tennis membership is at an all time high and the club continues to go from strength to strength.
