Running in the rain

Luke Taylor is offered a high-five as he approaches the finish line to win the Cambridge Middle School year 8 boys’ cross country race.

Rain put a damper on Cambridge Middle School’s cross country day forcing the cancellation of the traditional relay event for non-competitive runners.

However, competitive races went ahead, giving the school’s long-distance speed demons a chance to battle it out on the 2.5km track, which began and finished at the Cambridge Athletic and Harrier Club and looped around John Kerkhof Park.

This year’s top-three placegetters were:

Year 7 girls: Emily Cameron 1, Nina Davies 2, Hollie McIntyre 3. Year 7 boys: Roman Thorpe 1, Colin Johnston 2, Isaac Williams 3. Year 8 girls: Sunny Brugh 1, Maisey Butler 2, Emma Cotter 3. Year 8 boys: Luke Taylor 1, Kaden Auton 2, Kiwa Ackerman 3.

The top six runners from each age group qualified to represent Cambridge Middle School at the Waikato Intermediate and Middle Schools Cross Country championships in Tokoroa on August 15.
