Derby win for Cambridge High

Jaxson Makgill (centre) is congratulated on his goal by Cambridge High teammates (from left) William Wienand, Kingston Storey, Luca Savage, Regan Grey, Cooper Bailey, Adam Finn, Hayden Lee and keeper Bede Newlands.

Cambridge High School’s Colts football team continued their successful run in division two of the Waikato Secondary School Football Association junior boys’ league in a local derby recently, beating St Peter’s Blue 3-0.

Goal scorers were Jaxson Makgill, who floated the ball over the keeper from outside the box, Hayden Lee, who executed a perfectly placed header from a Zach Kelk cross, and Luca Savage, who slipped one past the keeper in a tidy finish.

The win left Cambridge High sitting at the top of the table with Hillcrest High School’s junior boys’ premier team, who they were scheduled to meet at home on Tuesday afternoon.

St Peter’s is third on the table, ahead of Hamilton Boys’ High School Junior Boys Gold and Silver and St John’s College’s Junior Boys Colts B.

There are eight divisions in the Waikato secondary school junior boys’ competition.
