As one of Cambridge High School’s two head boys this year, Blake Williams hopes to leave a lasting impact on fellow students.

The passionate guitar player set his sights on a prefect or head student role three years ago and believes his communication skills helped get him over the line.

“I love talking to people and creating connections, so I think that was a big help towards my success in getting this position,” he said.

“I’d love to leave a lasting impact on our students to encourage them to take advantage of the opportunities the school offers, whilst also helping them find their passions within the school.”

Blake moved to Cambridge with his family when he was two years old. His father, Shane, is a paramedic and his mother, Charmaine, is a vet nurse. He has a 20-year-old sister, Madisen.

A graduate of Cambridge East School and Cambridge Middle School, Blake studied year 12 English, chemistry, biology and music and year 13 calculus and physics this year. He was top of his year in chemistry.

Last year he was a member of the Cambridge High arts committee, helping to organise and run school events.

In his spare time, he enjoys playing free music shows with school bands.

“A philosophy I have is trying to improve every day, making small adjustments to make each day better than the last,” he said.

“This has helped me a lot with being able to reflect on my mistakes and issues to fix them rather than ignoring them.”

His parents had been a huge influence on his success in life to date with their “constant guidance and support”.

“They always give me great advice whenever I’m at a crossroads and not sure what to do,” he said.

Blake said he was excited about working closely with the senior leadership team and student executive to create positive change.

“I’m very grateful to be in this position, where I can hopefully make a real impact on the students at Cam High.”

Long term, he hopes to head to university to pursue a career as a doctor or engineer.
