Hautapu win Waipā derbies

Saturday was a tough day at the office for Te Awamutu Sports as Hautapu pulled them apart in both premier battles of the Waipā at Cambridge Memorial Park.

Hautapu first five-eighth Dillon Martin slotted six conversions against his former club in the 62-19 premier A victory.

Chiefs back Manasa Mataele and Waikato winger Waisake Salabiau helped themselves to doubles amongst the 10 Hautapu tries.

Awa Morris and Ryley Emery were the two Te Awamutu try scorers.

Logan Karl added a conversion, while Sports were also awarded a penalty try.

Hautapu B also played to a similar beat, beating Te Awamutu’s development side 68-14.

Winger Todd Silva scored three tries for the home team, while hooker Archie Falconer scored a try for both Hautapu and Hautapu B.

Leamington and Pirongia were successful in their division 1A clashes.

Suburbs fell 27-10 to Leamington, while Pirongia beat Ōhaupō 38-22 to reclaim the McInally Cup.

A win, a loss and a draw came the way of the Waipā-based Division 1B teams.

Pirongia B beat Ōhaupō B 26-13 and Leamington B drew 29-all against their Suburbs counterparts.

In the women’s premiership division, it was a rough day for both Waipā squads.

Hautapu succumbed to Hamilton old Boys Huskiez 53-0 and University trounced Kihikihi 54-5.

Hautapu will host Ōtorohanga Sports women on Friday (tomorrow)  at Cambridge Memorial Park, while Kihikihi head to Hamilton to face Melville.

Women’s championship division team Pirongia were toppled 31-14 by Waitete.

It was 50/50 for the Waipā under-21 sides. Pirongia and Hautapu claimed wins, Leamington and Te Awamutu Sports didn’t.

Hamilton Old Boys colts dealt to Te Awamutu on Friday night, 85-12, Pirongia pipped Leamington 22-17 and Hautapu colts beat Hinuera 29-17.

The Maihiihi-based Kio Kio United Cattle Dogs had a bye week in the combined Waikato-Counties Manukau Under-85kg rugby competition.

On June 28, they are set to take on Morrinsville Sports under-85kg at Campbell Park in the Waikato semi-final.

In the presidents’ over-35 grade, Pirongia Mountain Men had an impressive 21-0 win against Suburbs Stirrers.
