Outstanding performances from St Peter’s School students saw four gold awards and one silver award achieved at the 2017 Waikato/BOP Band and Orchestra Festival on August 18. As the only school to field two gold award-level orchestras, St Peter’s was marked as the top orchestral school in the region.

Golds went to the school’s Viva Stringendo group (string orchestra), Petra Musica (full orchestra), Petrafied Phunk (jazz funk band) and percussion ensemble “Impact”. Petra Musica was also awarded Most Outstanding Performance.

The St Peter’s Guitar Orchestra was also awarded silver, as well as “Most Dynamic Performance”.

“It was amazing to see our students really push hard to go beyond their perceived ability and perform some tough and very demanding music,” said St Peter’s Director of Music and Performing Arts Victoria Trenwith. “It was fantastic to gain reinforcement in the Festival environment that hard work, perseverance and commitment to the team pays off.”

Adjudicators had high praise for the St Peter’s performances, noting the students’ energy, commitment, engagement, enjoyment and cohesiveness as key to their success.
